Blackmoore

We chose “Blackmoore” by Julianne Donaldson for our February book choice. This is the second book by Julianne Donaldson and the second we’ve done by her. She writes regency romance and her stories are sweet and lovely. This book was no exception. The main character, Kate, is an independent young lady that is determined not to marry. The storyline involves her desire to visit her best friend, Henry’s, family estate: Blackmoore, an excitingly dramatic and positively gothic castle on the Moors and edge of the ocean. Kate also is yearning to flee her scheming mother and sisters and find a way to go with an aunt to India.

Her heart is confused when she makes a deal with Henry and she is torn between a desire for her freedom and her affection. It is a lovely, proper romance and many in our group quite enjoyed it. We had some who liked her last book, “Edenbrooke” better, and some who liked this one better. So all in all, we decided it was an enjoyable read.  Especially around Valentine’s day.
