The Tattooist of Auschwitz

For our July selection, we chose "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" by Heather Morris. This was a fascinating story about a Jewish man who is taken to Auschwitz during WWII and ends up being conscripted to work as the tattooist who marks the arms of prisoners.

The book is based on interviews with the real Lale Sokolov, and we learn what his experience was like enduring the terrible concentration camps, as well as the way he met his true love. Told with vivid and unexpected detail, the interesting perspective was refreshing when facing such a challenging topic! Who thinks they will find love in a terrible concentration camp?

The unique perspective and journey of Lale and his wife made this a book choice our group appreciated.

"If you wake up in the morning, it is a good day."
